Positions and qualifications

These two are the whole of eligibility. People hold qualifications, positions require them, and only somebody holding everything a position asks for can be scheduled to it.

Who this is for
A manager or the chief manager. Do this before you draw a week.

Step by step

  1. Add your qualifications first

Qualifications, then Add qualification. These are the skills, certificates and permissions a shift can require: a bar licence, key holder, trained on a particular room.

  2. Add your positions

Positions, then Add position. A position is the job a shift is staffed for — the till, the grill, reception. The builder's grid has one row per position.

  3. Say what each position requires

On the position, tick its required qualifications. Somebody must hold every one of them, so require carefully: two qualifications on a position describe a smaller group of people than one does.

  4. Use them to narrow as well as widen

Give one person both the till and the coffee machine and they can cover either, so your flexible staff fill more of the week. Make a junior position require something your senior staff do not hold and they stop appearing on it.

Changing them later

A qualification a position still requires cannot be deleted until it has been removed there, and a rule set still applied to somebody cannot be deleted until they are moved off it. Nothing you change here rewrites a week you have published.
