Pick up an open shift
An open shift is work the workplace wants covered and has not found anybody for. If you are eligible for it, you can ask.
- Who this is for
- Anybody on a roster who wants more hours.
Step by step
Open the open shifts
The extra shifts you are eligible to pick up, with the date, the hours and the position on each one.
Why a shift is not in the list
You only see the ones you are eligible for: the right position, the qualifications it requires, no clash with a shift you already have, and no date you said you cannot work.
Ask for one
Ask to pick it up. Your manager decides, and you can follow the request on the same screen until they do.
Take one back
A request that has not been answered yet can be cancelled, so asking costs you nothing.
What it does to your hours
An extra shift counts towards your limits like any other. Your manager sees the same warnings they would see if they had assigned you to it themselves.
If there is nothing there
Nothing up for grabs means every shift is either filled or one you are not eligible for. Open shifts appear as they are posted, so it is worth looking again later in the week.
